Description

Armida Rivera has been full-time faculty at the University of Science and Arts of Chiapas, Mexico, since 2019. There, she founded the first brass choir in Mexico and created the first graduate program for brass players in Mexico. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Science and Arts, Dr. Rivera played principal trumpet with the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, sand performed with Ensemble X, Queen City Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra of Baja California, Jalisco Symphony Orchestra, Xalapa Symphony Orchestra and Chiapas Symphony Orchestra. . In recent years, she has won a distinguished scholarship, FONCA, for her compositions for unaccompanied trumpet, compositions she recorded for her first solo album “Tragedy for Trumpet”. Dr. Rivera holds a BMus from her native Baja California, a MMus from Ithaca College, and a DMA from Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She has served as part of the New Works Committee for the ITG since 2020, and on the board of the ITG since 2021.
