Internationally known jazz trombone legend, and Conn-Selmer endorsing artist, Jiggs Whigham, stumbled on to the instrument in the early design phase. The new plastic instrument performed so well that Jiggs pledged full support of the project and brought it to the attention of the Conn-Selmer team. In early 2011, a global distribution agreement was signed and the Jiggs pBone was officially launched in June at the International Trombone Federation Show in Nashville, TN.
"The Jiggs pBone has been an immediate success" says Ryan Wear, Conn-Selmer Director of Marketing for the pBone. "We've sold them to students, amateurs, and professionals all around the world. It has a viral following with pictures and video clips popping up online daily. It's sold well because it's just a lot of fun!"
Aside from general music classrooms and individual use, the Jiggs pBone has started making appearances in marching and pep bands. School spirit can be shown with the four popular colors of red, blue, green, and yellow.
"Our dealers and distributors around the world have been exceptionally supportive of this new product" says Tim Caton, Director of Marketing Communications for Conn-Selmer. "Originally, many of them ordered them as a unique conversation starter for their store or because a customer made a special order request. Now the dealers are finding that they can't keep them in stock. It's no surprise that they voted "Best in Show". We look forward to continued success with this product."
The Jiggs pBone is available through any Conn-Selmer authorized trombone dealer and carry an MSRP of $149.00. For more information on the Jiggs pBone, visit www.Jiggspbone.com. For more information on the NAMM “Best in Show” awards, visit www.namm.org.
